-Manufacturing-
Zama has started full operation in our new factory Oct-2005. The new factory is in Xili, China. It is double the manufacturing space. This increased space of 240,000 Sq feet in an eight-story building now allows us:
- Install additional equipment for capacity increase
- Move die-casting operation from the Hong Kong factory
- Consolidate all departments in one building for efficient operation
- Variety of products other than carburetors, such as chain saw oil pumps
With 2,000 workers Zama is able to produce 55,000 carburetors per day. Zama is producing 120 different carburetor models, and 95% of Zama component parts are manufactured in house. In house tooling department supplies 100% of die-casting and stamping tools. This is one of the secrets why Zama is able to keep the shortest lead-time and highest quality in the industry.
-Quality-
Continuous quality improvement programs have been taken on by the QA group in the China factory. “Our goal is to reach defective rate 500ppm or less and we achieved it for most all of our products. Our continuous effort for cleanliness and tighter tolerance control makes our ppm down dramatically, and we continue to look for other improvements.” Said Mr. Tsuyoshi Anaushi / QA Manager.
-Engineering-
Tighter emission regulation in US and in Europe demands Zama Engineering take a different approach than conventional carburetor. Variety of fuel including Alcohol mixed fuel is becoming another pressure. Conventional carburetor works by vacuum that is created by the engine. In order to control tighter emission, and keep good running performances in any condition, more sophisticated fuel supply system will be needed. “We are working on several different systems to find the right answer in the right timing.” said Mr. Takumi Nonaka / Senior Manager at Zama Engineering center in Iwate, Japan.
Zama
Products
Zama, the
world’s largest producer of diaphragm carburetors, is continuing
to work closely with its customers to develop new product solutions
to meet or exceed emission regulations and consumer friendly requirements.
The Franklin Tn. based company is in or near production of improved
emission solutions for 4-cycle, stratified charge/airhead, lean burn
and CAT muffler engines. Each year, Zama produces more than 10 million
carburetors, including butterfly, rotary, airhead and other stratified
charged models. The company also manufactures fuel-enrichment starting
systems, accelerators and complementary mechanical systems.
To satisfy
parts service customers, Zama recently added a reasonably priced “Service
Manual" on CD and updated its “Technical Guide" and
"Easy-to Use Parts Look-up System” on its Web site. The company
is committed to its philosophy “listen to the customer and give
them what they want.”
Zama
Increases Capacity in China
Zama recently
announced plans to increase its manufacturing capacity, in its Xili,
China factories, to a level of 55,000 carburetors per day.
In addition assembly lines are changing to provide more employee enrichment
and increase flexibility of production capacity. Zama currently ships
production requirements with four-week lead-time and has a record the
past few years of 100% on time delivery to its customers.
